Keeping Your Dog Safe in the Heat
The days are warming up and it's that time of year when you need to determine if it's too hot to walk the floofs! 🔥
Yes we want to ensure the furry guys are getting their exercise, but never at the risk of their health! Our pups can easily overheat and walking on hot pavement can not only contribute to heat exhaustion, it can also damage their skin. 😬
Aside from being mindful of the temperature, there are a few other things we can do to prevent our pups from overheating 👇
🔥 Walk during the early morning or evening when it's not so hot outside
🔥 Always bring water for your pup to drink
🔥 Don't run your dog during the heat of the day
🔥 If they're outside in your yard, ensure they have access to shade
🔥 Do the sidewalk test! If you place the back of your hand on the sidewalk and can't hold it there for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's feet
🔥 NEVER leave your dog in a hot car, EVEN with the windows down
🔥 Don't take your dog to outdoor events where they are unable to escape the heat
🔥 Know the signs of overheating (coming soon)
Everyone likes to enjoy the summer including the furry guys! Keeping them safe during the summer is our responsibility and one we should take very seriously! 👍
