Have you been duped by big pet food marketing?

You're not alone! Pet parents just like you want to provide the absolute best for the furry members of their family and we're here to help you do that! Let's break down the front of the bag to expose the marketing ploys big pet food uses to deceive unsuspecting pet parents trying to provide healthy food for their pets!

Many foods today claim they are a "natural" blend, or a "natural" option. They use the word natural because it sounds healthy, not because it IS natural. Let's look at the definition of the word natural as the world knows it.

nat·u·ral ~ "Existing in or caused by nature; not made or caused by humankind."

Now let's look at what the pet food industry defines natural as when used on pet food labels:

"A feed or ingredient derived solely from plant, animal, or mined sources either in its unprocessed state or having been subject to physical processing, heat processing, rendering purification, extraction, hydrolysis, enzymolysis or fermentation, but not having been produced by or subject to a chemically synthetic process and not containing any additives or processing aids that are chemically synthetic except in amounts as may occur unavoidably in good manufacturering practices." 😳

Basically, they've covered all bases, cheated to win and then lied about even being at the game! The definition which allows big pet food manufacturers to market their food as "natural" allows them to have absolutely nothing natural at all in their bag! As long as they've met the defined requirements of "natural" they can advertise the food as natural.

So here's the breakdown, the big pet food manufacturers can take something (we don't know what it is as a "mined source"), they can heat it (to any temperature they want), they cound render it (another word for processing the heck out of something), then they can't chemically alter the thing they're processing, unless it's "unavoidable" and they do chemically alter it during their "good manufacturering practices". Sounds pretty natural hey!?!

Don't be duped by the marketing wizards of big pet food manufacturers. Beat them at their own game and KNOW what you're buying through companies who are completely transparent in how their food is made. Our pets can't say no to the food we serve them, so always be sure you're serving the very best you can afford! Your pets will thank you for it!
