Corn! The Silent but Deadly Ingredient in Pet Food!

You've heard us talk about it before and with recent events, it's even more important to talk about it now! The silent but deadly ingredient used in many pet foods! 😳
Corn! 🌽 An inexpensive filler many pet food companies use and claim it provides more energy for the animal than meat. This is a myth, which is a nice way of saying, it's a lie! More importantly, corn can be a deadly ingredient in pet food due to the aflatoxins associated with it.
Aflatoxins are a family of toxins produced by certain fungi that are found on agricultural crops such as maize (corn), peanuts, cottonseed, and tree nuts. 🌽 At high levels, aflatoxins can cause illness (aflatoxicosis), liver damage, and death in pets. The toxins can be present even if there is no visible mold on the pet food. 👈 This means you can't tell by looking at the food if aflatoxins exist.
In the first two weeks of 2021 over 70 dogs have died from an aflatoxin food recall (there are reports this number may be as high as triple the number being reported). 😡
Aflatoxins and excessive vitamin D are two of the most common recalls in pet food. They are also responsible for the majority of pets losing their lives! Why you ask? It's simple, big pet food manufacturers cutting corners, saving a buck and not going to great lengths to ensure the food we're feeding our pets is nourishing, healthy and safe! They use ingredients from overseas to save money, they skimp on quality testing and they're more concerned about making money then keeping pets healthy! 😡
Pet food made with corn is a low quality, inexpensive and potentially deadly food! Normally we try to be as politically correct as possible but there is no way to do that when pets are dying from eating these foods. This isn't a fun post to write or read and we know that! But it's extremely important that we ensure ALL pet parents understand just how critical it is to the health and safety of our animals that we feed them a quality diet free of corn and other useless fillers! 🌽 If you see corn in the ingredient panel, avoid the food! Look for a better option!
Our pets are meat eaters! 🥩 They thrive when we feed them a biologically appropriate diet that includes fresh, whole food options. If we ate nothing but fast food and junk food our whole lives, how healthy would we be? The answer is not very! They've made movies about it! Our pets deserve to live long, healthy lives free from any danger the very food we're feeding them may actually harm them or worse!
