Are You Unknowingly Feeding Your Pet Pesticides?

You read that right! Pesticides in pet food! 🤮
A very common ingredient used in prescription foods and by many big pet food manufacturers is 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗚𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗹. Sometimes referred to as cornmeal, but most often listed in the ingredients as Corn Gluten Meal (CGM) is not only a natural pesticide, it is also used as a natural herbicide. 😲
So how does it work you ask? If you have an ant problem, pouring corn gluten meal wherever you see ants traveling is the best method. The ants will pick up the gluten and take it to the nest where they will feed on it. Since ants cannot digest this cornmeal product, they will starve to death. It may take up to a week or so before you see your ant population dwindling, but it will kill them. 🐜
This deadly ingredient is also used as a herbicide to kill weeds in seed! It cannot kill the plant, you have to get the weed before it seeds and sprouts, but it will eventually kill them if you're using corn gluten meal in your garden or on grass in the early spring. 🌷
So corn gluten meal does serve a purpose for killing unwanted pests or pesky weeds, but it has no place in our pet's food! It is simply used to increase the percentage of protein listed on the bag! If it kills pests and weeds, why would we ever want to feed it to our pets? Check your ingredients and be sure you're not feeding this deadly ingredient to your beloved furry family!
